Former TV and film costume designer Michelle Barrett created Cherub Child to put the innocence and the playfulness back into childrenswear.
There has been increasing concern and debates about how ‘age appropriate’ children’s clothes are. For instance, did you know that Primark was stocking padded bikinis for seven-year-olds? We agree strongly with the Mumsnet 'Let Girls be Girls' campaign.
Cherub Child has filled a gap in the market, producing clothes that are fashionable, contemporary, but traditionally inspired. Michelle says "I became more aware when my daughter was born, that what was available for young girls was not necessarily appropriate. After speaking to other parents I realised that they also had the same concerns. So I decided to create my own range with the aim of of providing clothing that was suitable for small children."
Michelle, who has over 10 years experience designing for celebrities in films such as Bridget Jones and the BBC1 hit series Spooks, has drawn together influences from as far back as the Victorians to create her designs, without them becoming overly fussy or restricting. Attention to detail ensures each garment has a unique, handmade feel, which is comfortable but durable to wear.
